fruit was first introduced to the Western world in 1750 by the French scientist
M. de Bruges, who sent samples from Brazil to Louis XV of France. As the plant
is originally from Brazil or Southeast Asia, it is not cultivated commercially
in many places. The few countries that do cultivate it depend largely on
imports for their supply of passion fruit.
